Pit-Road W255 IJN Aircraft Carrier Chitose 1/700 – Plastic aircraft carrier model kit

Pit-Road W255 IJN Aircraft Carrier Chitose 1/700 is a high-quality plastic model kit representing the Japanese light aircraft carrier Chitose, which served in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. The model is made in a precise 1/700 scale, allowing a highly accurate representation of the original vessel in both proportions and details.

  • Model scale: 1/700 – perfect for warship collections and naval battle dioramas.
  • Country of origin: Japan – historically, “Chitose” belonged to the Imperial Japanese Navy fleet.
  • Material: high-quality plastic – ensures model durability and ease of processing and painting.
  • Product type: plastic model kit, requiring self-assembly and painting.
  • Period of use: World War II (1938-1944) – especially important in Pacific battles.
  • Equipment: the set includes hull, flight deck, armament elements (127 mm dual-purpose guns, 25 mm cannons), funnels, and optional details allowing for an accurate reconstruction of the ship after its conversion to an aircraft carrier.

Historical description:
“Chitose” was one of two large seaplane tenders of the Chitose type, built with later conversion to an aircraft carrier in mind. The vessel was launched in 1936 and entered service two years later. After the heavy Japanese losses at the Battle of Midway, “Chitose” was converted in the Sasebo Naval Arsenal to a light aircraft carrier with a 180 m flight deck in 1943. Its modern design was distinguished by horizontally positioned funnels and advanced anti-aircraft armament. “Chitose” participated in naval battles in the Pacific, including the Battle of Leyte in October 1944, where it was sunk.

Who do we recommend this model for?
We particularly recommend this model to intermediate and advanced naval modelers, enthusiasts of historical Japanese warships, and collectors of 1/700 scale models. With its numerous detailed elements, the set ensures satisfying assembly and makes for an excellent standalone display model or part of a diorama.

Build difficulty level: 3/5 – the model requires basic knowledge of assembly and painting techniques, optimal for intermediate modelers.

Choose the Pit-Road W255 IJN Aircraft Carrier Chitose 1/700 if you value realism, rich detailing, and want to enrich your collection with one of the most interesting aircraft carriers of World War II!

Scale
1/700

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
