Avro Lancaster B.II – historical background

The Avro Lancaster is a British heavy bomber, a key aircraft of the Royal Air Force during World War II. The B.II variant was developed as an alternative to the basic Lancaster, fitted with Bristol Hercules engines instead of Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. The B.II Lancasters were mainly used by the Royal Air Force between 1942–1945 and took part in the most important bombing raids on strategic targets of the Third Reich, including the famous Black Buck operation, as well as during numerous night operations in World War II.

Features and advantages of the Quickboost QB72469 set

  • Exceptional historical accuracy – the perforations match the original barrels used in Lancaster B.II aircraft.
  • Easy installation – the part fits Airfix models, replacing the factory machine gun barrels.
  • Resin construction guarantees very sharp detail while maintaining delicate, thin barrel walls.
  • Durable product, resistant to deformation and external factors.

Category and difficulty level

Category: resin detail set for 1/72 scale plastic models.
Assembly difficulty level: 2/5 – a part for easy assembly, requiring only basic modeling skills and precision when cutting original barrels and gluing resin parts.

Scale
1/72

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
