The Mitsubishi A5M2b Type 96, known by the Allied codename "Claude," was the world's first mass-produced monoplane fighter aircraft designed for carrier operations. It was a breakthrough in aircraft design by Jiro Horikoshi – the renowned engineer who later created the legendary Zero.
