Quickboost QB72640 Bf 109F/G Tropical Filter – Late for Academy/Fine Model 1/72

The Quickboost QB72640 Bf 109F/G tropical filter - late upgrade set is a specialized accessory designed for 1/72 scale plastic models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F and Bf 109G, offered by Academy and Fine Molds. This resin tropical filter has been designed to replicate the late version of the air filter used on actual aircraft operating in demanding climate conditions, such as the deserts of North Africa during World War II.

The Bf 109F/G are successive iterations of the famed German Messerschmitt fighter. These aircraft were widely used by the Luftwaffe from the second half of World War II. One of the indispensable elements fitted on examples sent to Africa was the tropical filter, which protected the engine from fine sand and dust particles common in the deserts. This filter, commonly known as the "tropenfilter", was essential for maintaining the reliability of the Daimler-Mercedes DB601/605 engine in the harsh North African climate. Bf 109F and G planes fitted with this accessory flew, among others, on the African front, forming the core of Jagdgeschwader 27 (JG 27).

The Quickboost set stands out for its exceptionally high quality workmanship and precision detailing using premium resin. The part features outstanding detailing, far surpassing standard plastic elements found in kit sprues. The resin filter features drilled holes, surface texture, and all the typical traits of the late version, instantly enhancing the authenticity of your finished miniature. The kit requires no soldering or complicated processing, and thanks to its thoughtful design, it fits Academy and Fine Molds kits perfectly.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
