M114 – a light, tracked reconnaissance vehicle introduced into service with the US Army in the early 1960s. Designed as a lighter alternative to the popular M113, it had tracked drive and rapid off-road capabilities. It was an amphibious vehicle and could be air-dropped. Unfortunately, during the Vietnam War it proved vulnerable to damage, and its weak armor and technical issues meant it was quickly replaced by the M551 Sheridan light tank. Used by the US Army until 1973, after retirement it served with US police forces.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
