Historical information
The DH.103 Hornet was a single-seat, twin-engine fighter produced by the renowned British company de Havilland, designed as a successor to the Mosquito. The Hornet was developed at the end of World War II – its first flight took place in 1944 – and entered service just after the war ended. It was one of the fastest piston-engined fighters of its time, and thanks to its sophisticated wooden construction it boasted excellent maneuverability and long range. Aircraft of this type were used mainly by the Royal Air Force (RAF) – for example, in Far East China and in Malaya during the Malayan Emergency of 1948-1955.
Kit description and recommendation
The Special Hobby 72046 DH.103 Hornet Mk.I/III 1/72 model features precisely rendered panel lines, sharply defined surface details, and an abundance of small features. The kit includes various marking options, allowing for both the Mk.I and Mk.III versions to be built. The clear canopy highlights the cockpit interior, while the richly illustrated instructions make assembly significantly easier.
We recommend this kit to modelers with intermediate to advanced skills (difficulty level: 3/5). The wealth of details and the option to choose the marking version make this build highly satisfying for fans of classic aviation and British military aircraft.
