Historical Overview – Vega 5 'Lady Lindy'

The Lockheed Vega is a legendary American single-engine aircraft developed in the 1920s by the Lockheed company. The famous Vega 5B version was powered by a Wright Whirlwind radial engine and featured an innovative wooden monocoque structure. The most iconic aircraft with registration number NR-7962 was nicknamed "Lady Lindy”—named in honor of Charles Lindbergh. It was this very aircraft that, in 1932, Amelia Earhart used to become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, simultaneously setting a new world record for both time and distance.
