Historical description:
Shimakaze was the only prototype of its type, built in 1943 as an escort destroyer with an exceptionally innovative design – powered by three turbines with a total output exceeding 75,000 horsepower, it reached speeds as high as 40.9 knots. Equipped with as many as 15 torpedo launchers, it became a symbol of Japanese technological advancement. Shimakaze sank on November 11, 1944 during an air raid by American aircraft in Ormoc Bay.
