Special Hobby 72372 Blohm Voss BV 155B-1 'Luftwaffe 46 High Altitude Fighter' 1/72

Special Hobby 72372 Blohm Voss BV 155B-1 'Luftwaffe 46 High Altitude Fighter' in 1/72 scale is a high-quality plastic model kit faithfully replicating the remarkable design of the experimental German high-altitude fighter from the final phase of World War II. The model is aimed at both collectors and experienced modelers passionate about Luftwaffe aviation, especially the 'Luftwaffe 1946' theme and prototype designs from the end of the war.

  • Scale: 1:72
  • User country: Germany (Third Reich, Luftwaffe)
  • Historical period: World War II (a project from the final phase of the war, never entered serial production)
  • Material: high-quality plastic, model designed for assembly and painting by the user
  • Category: plastic model kit

Blohm & Voss BV 155B-1 was a prototype high-altitude fighter aircraft designed at the request of the Luftwaffe. Its purpose was to intercept American Boeing B-29 bombers at altitudes unattainable for standard fighters. The project was characterized by long, thin wings and a radiator under the fuselage. The BV 155 never went beyond the testing stage – only a few prototypes were built, but the very development of this plane is evidence of the impressive ambitions and engineering capabilities of German designers at the twilight of the war.

This Special Hobby plastic model delivers a high level of detail – realistically reproduced fuselage, control surfaces, a cockpit with injection-molded clear parts, and a complete set of decals recreating hypothetical 'Luftwaffe 1946' markings. The kit does not include extras such as photo-etched parts or a metal barrel, but it is an excellent base for conversions and enhancements by experienced modelers.

Assembly difficulty rating: 4/5 – recommended for intermediate and advanced modelers due to its precise, demanding construction and small details.

I recommend this kit to all World War II aviation enthusiasts and fans of unique, prototype Luftwaffe designs. It's an excellent choice for any 'What if' model collection, alternative history scenario reconstructions, and workshop historical projects.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
