The 25-mm 72-K automatic anti-aircraft gun was developed in Sverdlovsk by the Kalinin Plant team in 1939. After testing, it was adopted by the Red Army in 1940. It became one of the most significant Soviet anti-aircraft guns of this caliber, mass-produced between 1941 and 1945 (a total of 4,560 units were made). The gun was effective in combating enemy aircraft, and from 1943 onwards, it was equipped with an armored shield providing crew protection during ground target engagements. The 72-K participated in many key battles on the Eastern Front, including Stalingrad and the siege of Berlin.
