The KV-1S was a lighter, improved version of the heavy KV-1 tank, featuring a newly cast, low-profile turret and enhanced crew ergonomics. Mass-produced from August 1942, the vehicle was used from the Battle of Stalingrad and throughout many Eastern Front operations. A total of 1,106 units were made, and their unique silhouette and improved reliability made the KV-1S a valuable asset to the Red Army. It was actively used during 1942–1943.
