Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf C/B (VK36.01) is a prototype German heavy tank developed just before the outbreak of World War II. The project was a response to the Wehrmacht's demand for a modern armoured vehicle with better armour and armament than earlier models. The VK36.01 was a precursor to the later, well-known Tiger tanks. Versions C and B differed in technical details and armament; neither entered mass production. The prototypes were used in field tests in 1941–1942 and played a key role in the development of German armoured weaponry.
