The Fieseler Fi-156 Storch aircraft was developed at the request of the RLM as a reconnaissance machine with advanced STOL (short takeoff and landing) capabilities. It gained worldwide fame, among other things, thanks to the spectacular mission to rescue Mussolini from an Italian prison in 1943, carried out by Otto Skorzeny’s commandos. During World War II, it was mainly used as a liaison aircraft, air ambulance, and for frontline reconnaissance. After the war, it was used by numerous countries up to the 1950s and 1960s.
