Ju-87G-2 “Kanonenvogel” – Historical Overview

Junkers Ju-87G-2 is a specialized version of the famous German dive-bomber Ju 87 Stuka, adapted for tank destruction. The aircraft was armed with two 37 mm BK anti-tank cannons under the wings, hence the nickname “Kanonenvogel” (Cannon Bird). It was used intensively by the Luftwaffe on the Eastern Front from 1943, especially by ace Rudel in battles against Soviet armored formations.
