Historical information

The Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter is a two-seat British fighter-bomber aircraft developed by Sopwith Aviation Company in 1915. The name "1 1/2 Strutter" refers to the characteristic wing strut arrangement. The aircraft quickly found wide application in the air forces of Great Britain, as well as France, Russia, Belgium, and the USA. In the British Royal Flying Corps and Royal Naval Air Service, it was used both as an escort fighter and a light strategic bomber.

The aircraft took active part in many aerial battles and raids against targets deep within German territory during World War I (1916–1918). It was also one of the first bombers equipped with a synchronizer allowing a machine gun to fire through the propeller—a breakthrough technology of the time.

Materials and accessories

  • Material: high-quality modeling plastic
  • Accessories: decals with Allied aircraft markings, assembly manual
  • The set does not include photo-etched parts or resin accessories

Who is it recommended for?

The model is intended for both beginners and intermediate modelers interested in World War I aviation and historical reconstruction. We especially recommend it to enthusiasts of British and French aviation from the Great War period, as well as collectors of biplane aircraft.

Difficulty level: 3/5

The model features a well-thought-out construction and excellent part fit. However, it requires precision when assembling the delicate fuselage and wing components, making it an attractive choice for those with at least basic modeling experience.

Roden 404 Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter Bomber 1:48 is an excellent addition to any aircraft model collection and offers a fascinating opportunity to recreate one of the most iconic bombers of World War I.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
