Trumpeter 02889 US A-37B Dragonfly Light Ground-Attack Aircraft (1/48)

Trumpeter 02889 US A-37B Dragonfly Light Ground-Attack Aircraft (1/48) is a high-quality plastic model kit intended for military aviation enthusiasts and modelers interested in jet aircraft from the Cold War era. The 1:48 scale model faithfully reproduces the characteristic A-37B Dragonfly attack aircraft, used primarily by the United States Air Force.

The A-37B Dragonfly is a modernized version of the A-37A, developed in response to the demand for a more durable and effective close air support aircraft. The A-37B variant entered service in the second half of the 1960s and was extensively used during the Vietnam War and in operations in South America, as well as being exported to many allied countries. Increased weight, larger fuel tanks (1920 liters), and a payload capacity of up to 2.67 tons allowed for longer combat missions and the carriage of more armament. One of the key changes in the B version was the relocation of the Pitot tube to the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer and the addition of an in-flight refueling probe, which positively affected the aircraft’s versatility and effectiveness.

The presented Trumpeter model contains over 170 parts made of durable plastic, distributed over 7 sprues. The kit also includes 1 photo-etched part, allowing for detailing of the cockpit and structural elements. The model does not include metal or resin parts—primary focus is placed on the accurate and detailed reproduction of the shape and equipment characteristic of the A-37B. The finished model dimensions are: length 203 mm, wingspan 241 mm, making it a striking piece for display in a collection or at a modeling exhibition.

  • Scale: 1/48
  • Operating country: USA and numerous allied states
  • Service period: Cold War (1960s, 70s, and 80s)
  • Material: high-quality plastic, 1 photo-etched part
  • Category: plastic assembly model kit
  • Number of parts: over 170
  • Glue and paints not included

The Trumpeter 02889 model kit is recommended for both intermediate and advanced modelers (difficulty level 3/5) due to the substantial number of details and components requiring precision during assembly. It is an excellent choice for all military aviation enthusiasts, especially those interested in Cold War conflicts and the Vietnam War. The superb attention to detail and solid quality ensure this model will appeal to the most demanding modeling hobbyists.

1/48

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
