Historical information about SPAD 13

The SPAD S.XIII was one of the most famous French combat machines of the Great War. This aircraft entered service in 1917 and was widely used until the end of World War I by both the French air force and its allies: the American, British, and Italian air forces. The SPAD 13 became famous not only for its excellent performance, but also for its solid construction and powerful armament, making it one of the most formidable opponents for German aircraft of the period. The greatest fighter aces, such as René Fonck and Eddie Rickenbacker (USA), flew on SPADs. The aircraft was intensively used from 1917 until after the end of the war.

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
