Historical information

The Hawker Tempest Mk.II is a British fighter aircraft, a development of the well-known Hawker Typhoon. The Mk.II was equipped with a Bristol Centaurus radial engine, providing greater speed and reliability. The Tempest Mk.II was operated by the Royal Air Force as well as the Indian and Pakistani Air Forces. These planes were in service from the end of World War II (first deliveries in 1944–1945) until the early 1950s, especially intensively used just after the war ("Cold War") and during conflicts in Asia.

The Tempest Mk.II was known for its high maneuverability and efficiency in combating enemy aircraft, especially during patrol, escort, and interception missions. For example, during the Kashmir conflict in 1947, British Tempests took part in combat over India.

Who is it for?

  • We recommend this model for experienced modellers as well as intermediate aircraft modeling enthusiasts.
  • This kit will be challenging mainly due to the number of small parts and the requirement for precise assembly and painting.

Assembly difficulty level

Difficulty level: 3/5. The kit is recommended for those who already have some experience with assembling 1:72 scale aircraft models.

Summary

Special Hobby 72181 Hawker Tempest Mk.II (1/72) is a kit that will enrich any collection of models from World War II and the beginning of the Cold War era. The perfect choice for hobbyists who value historical accuracy and excellent molding quality – highly recommended!

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
