Historical and Technical Description

Sdkfz 251/1 Ausf D is the most widespread version of the famous German armored half-track, which took part in almost all theaters of war during World War II. Designed as a transport vehicle for mechanized infantry (Panzergrenadiere), it enabled fast movement of soldiers on the battlefield while providing protection from small arms fire and artillery shrapnel.

The Ausf D version was simplified for production (the characteristic "cut-off" rear facilitated assembly) and adapted to transport up to 12 soldiers along with the driver and commander. It was intensively used on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, including during the fighting in Normandy, Operation Barbarossa, and battles in Italy.
